CES 2024 has wrapped up, leaving us with a mix of futuristic insights and practical tech trends that will shape the year ahead. From the first proper AI hardware to Bluetooth Auracast and neural headphones, CES provided a preview of how gadgets will evolve in 2024.
This year’s CES highlighted both minor annoyances, such as the pervasive integration of ChatGPT into various devices and the temptation of unaffordable massive TVs, as well as thrilling advancements. We’ve seen a parade of tech marvels, but our focus is on the trends that will genuinely impact our lives. So, take a break from your tech resolutions and dive into the major tech trends of 2024, as revealed by CES.

1. Mini-LED TVs are About to Get Massive
TVs always steal the spotlight at CES; this year was no exception. Mini-LED models have grown significantly, with TCL revealing a monstrous 115-inch mini-LED model called the QM891G. Hisense countered with a 110-inch model in its premium ULED X lineup, boasting a dazzling 10,000 nits of peak brightness. The good news for our wallets? These vast mini-LED sets are likely to be (relatively) affordable this year, especially compared to OLEDs. For example, Hisense plans to launch a 100-inch regular QLED model in 2024, which should be temptingly affordable for its size.
2. OLED TVs Will Get Much Brighter
Not to be outshone by their feisty mini-LED and microLED rivals, OLED TVs are set to get much brighter in 2024. The new LG C4, for instance, is significantly brighter than last year’s C3, thanks to improved processing and a redesigned microlens array (MLA). Samsung’s new S95D also features a ‘Glare-Free’ display, making it a top choice for bright rooms. If you’re in the market for a new TV, this year could be the perfect time to upgrade.
3. Qi2 Wireless Charging Will Finally Go Mainstream
CES 2024 heralded the dawn of useful new tech standards, including Qi2 wireless chargers. This is excellent news for smartphones, particularly Android phones, as Qi2 supports a minimum of 15W charging, the same as Apple MagSafe. While we’re still waiting for more smartphones to adopt Qi2, several Qi2 products were flaunting their capabilities at the show, like Satechi’s folding 3-in-1 model. It’s set to go on sale for $130 (around £105 / AU$195) in Q2 of 2024.
4. Bluetooth Auracast Will Change Headphones
Bluetooth Auracast was a standout at CES 2024. This tech allows compatible headphones to tune into devices without pairing, offering benefits like tuning into airport gate announcements or sports bar TVs. Auracast can broadcast to multiple devices simultaneously, making it a game-changer for public events and personal use. While hardware support is still limited, expect Auracast to become more widespread in 2024.
5. AI Gadgets Usher in Next-Gen Voice Assistants
AI gadgets could make a comeback in 2024, with devices like the Rabbit R1 handheld gizmo promising natural language interaction with apps. This trend sets a blueprint for future AI gadgets, potentially ending the era of endless phone swiping. It’s a promising glimpse into the future of personal tech.
6. E-Ink Will Personalize Our Laptops and Phones
E-Ink technology is maturing, with the Lenovo ThinkBook 13x Gen 4 SPE using E-Ink Prism tech to add customizable animations to its cover. This trend is expected to extend to smartphone covers, offering colour changes without extra power consumption. Stickers suddenly seem outdated in the face of such customizable tech.
7. Smart Rings Will Take the Baton from Smartwatches
Brilliant rings are set to gain popularity, with several new models showcased at CES 2024. These devices offer functionalities ranging from health tracking to home appliance control, potentially matching the popularity of smartwatches. The competition in the smart ring market is heating up, and 2024 might be their breakout year.
8. Neural Headphones Are Ready to Read Your Mind
Neural headphones, equipped with brainwave and muscle sensors, can provide mind-controlled interfaces for devices. These headphones enable tasks such as browsing the internet or playing games through neural commands, representing the future of hands-free interaction. Expect more neural tech creeping into your headphones in 2024 and beyond.
9. ChatGPT Will Be Shoe-Horned into Everything
ChatGPT was everywhere at CES 2024, from Volkswagen’s AI-based conversations in cars to creepy ChatGPT-powered devices. This trend is expected to continue, integrating ChatGPT into various consumer tech devices, for better or worse. While its omnipresence may be slightly annoying, it’s a sign of how integrated AI is becoming in our daily lives.
10. Smart Home Tech Will Become Invisible
The trend for smart home tech in 2024 is to blend into the background. Devices like the XGIMI Aladdin, a ceiling light with a projector and Bluetooth speaker, exemplify this trend. Big tech players like Samsung and LG are also making TVs the natural center of the smart home, potentially phasing out other hubs. The fewer devices, the better.
CES 2024 has once again demonstrated the rapid pace of technological innovation. This year’s gadgets promise to enhance our daily lives, offering new levels of convenience, personalization, and interactivity. As these technologies continue to develop, we can expect even more exciting advancements in the near future.
